Casino Royale Release Date, Cast, Plot, and More!

Casino Royale is where it all began for the worldly known and loved character James Bond. In 1953, Ian Fleming wrote a novel called Casino Royale starring James Bond as the protagonist for the very first time. In 1967 this story was loosely brought to the cinema for the fans of special agent 007 to watch and cherish. With David Niven portraying the character of Bond, John Huston directed the film, and Columbia pictures distributed it.

The 1967 Casino Royale was a huge success proved by its earning of 41.7 million dollars at the box office worldwide and making up to the 13th position in the list of highest grossing movies of 1967. Maybe this success is what motivated Martin Campbell to create another adaptation of Ian’s novel Casino Royale.

Neil Purvis, Robert Wade, and Paul Haggis wrote the screenplay for Casino Royale released in 2006, with Daniel Craig as the MI6 agent for the first time. It was the third adaption of the novel and 21st in the series of James Bond movies and the first one in the series of movies starring Daniel Craig as James bond.

It is considered PG-13 due to an intense scene of torture, violent actions, nudity, and sexual scenes. It has a rating of 8.0/10 according to IMDb.

The movie starts with James Bond earning his license to kill which permits him to not be charged with murder if he kills someone in the line of duty, making him an official 00 agent. Being the 7th agent in history to be promoted to this status, he earns the name 007. His first mission is to spy on a terrorist by the name of Mollaka in Uganda. The investigation doesn’t go as planned and adding to the fun of watching Bond navigate through difficulties on his own, he decides to work independently of MI6.

James travels to the Bahamas, following a lead, and finds Alex Dimitrios and his girlfriend there. He learns soon that Dimitrios is in cahoots with Le Chiffre, the person who provides all kinds of financial help to the world’s terrorist organizations.

The secret service Organisation reveals to Bond that Le Chiffre is planning to gamble at a high-stakes poker game at the Le Casino Royale, Montenegro, to raise money to provide funding to the terrorists of the world. Bond is asked to gamble against him. To help him out or rather to keep a close eye on him, M sends Vesper Lynd. Bond is a little skeptical of her at first but starts considering her a real comrade after facing danger and tolerating torture together.

James Bond, born on April 13, 1968, was a commander at the Royal Navy Reserve until he was recruited to join the ultra-covert Black Ops unit within the British Secret Intelligence Service or more conveniently known as MI6, as an intelligence officer. Bond is depicted as one of those spies who like to work alone, maybe a defense mechanism originated from having no close family members alive. Bond knows how to stay calm and think during a crisis and does not fall behind in helping others.

Vesper Lynd, named vesper which is “evening” in Latin since she was born on a stormy evening, is depicted as a kind woman who does not believe in killing people. Although, her kindness doesn’t cause a hindrance in her missions. She is a strong woman with incredible skills and resources.

James Bond is a character that the fans just adore. Some of the dialogues might contribute to this with “The name is Bond. James Bond” topping the list. This dialogue can say to have an entirely separate fan base from the movie itself. It has been used as a reference in a lot of different movies, series, and novels.

Another phrase that caught on after the release of this movie is “A martini. Shaken, not stirred.” which was said by Bond to Vesper. Bond even named a martini after Vesper, a girl he falls in love with, and calls it “vesper martini”, which rose in demand at pubs and bars as the fans of the agent increased.
