Chihayafuru is an anime television series adapted from a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Yuki Suetsugu. Chihayafuru anime series directed by Moria Asaka aired on Nippon Television from October 2011 to March 2012. Soon in 2013, the second season of this manga adaptation aired on the same channel. After a timestamp of 6 years, Nippon TV aired the third season of Chihayafuru from October 2019 to March 2020 and are expected to release Chihayafuru Season 4 soon.
After the first two seasons, the audience believed that the show concluded with the second season but the makers surprised fans with a third season in 2019. Chihayafuru Season 3 was unexpected and after its release, the fans are craving Chihayafuru Season 4.
The story of Chihayafuru is centred on Chihaya Ayase. She spent most of her life supporting her sister in her modelling career until she met a boy named Arata Wataya. Arata was a skilled Karuta player. Karuta is a Japan-originated card game. Arata believed that Chihaya had the potential to become a great karuta player. Soon, she took on the dream of pursuing her career in karuta. The story then showcased to us the changes in her life after taking a big impactful decision.

Chihayafuru Season 4 Release Date
Madhouse studios, the producer of Chihayafuru has not officially revealed any information or detail regarding the release of Chihayafuru Season 4. There is a lot of script material available for the makers to create a fourth season of this Japanese anime. The original manga had 48 volumes and adapted from it we have seen only three seasons of Chihayafuru.
On the 10th anniversary of Chihayafuru, there was a tweet that ignited the desires of fans for Chihayafuru Season 4. The illustrator of the manga released an artwork and hinted at a future for Chihayafuru.

She got separated from Arata due to some reason but didn’t give up playing karuta. She opened a karuta club at her high school with her friend, Taichi. Although she parted ways with Arata she still cared for him and realised that he will always be her love interest.
- Taichi Mashima voiced by Adam Gibbs. Taichi was an all-rounded sportsperson. He was Chihaya’s childhood friend. He was seen having feelings for Chihaya although he had a girlfriend. Sometimes it looked like he was envious of Chihaya’s feelings for Arata. He was the president of the Mizusawa Karuta Club. Taichi deeply cared for Chihaya and helped her form a karuta club. His supportive nature was always there for Chihaya. He never confessed his feelings for her and developed a close bond with Chihaya.
- Arata Wataya voiced by Blake Shepard. Arata Wataya was a new student at Chihaya’s elementary school. He was the grandchild of a master karuta player and inspired Chihaya to play karuta. After graduating from elementary school, he returned back to his hometown to take care of his grandfather. He gave up playing karuta after his grandfather died while he was playing a match to rise up as an A-rank player. He dreamt of becoming a Master Karuta Player but eventually left the sport. However, when Taichi and Chihaya visited him in his hometown, they motivated him to take up Karuta again and he cherished his career after that incident. It was later seen in the series that Arata confessed his love to Chihaya.

Chihayafuru Season 4 Plot Speculation
Chihayafuru revolved around the story of a young girl, Chihaya Ayase who devoted the majority of her life to supporting her sister’s modelling career. She was later driven by the passion to become the best karuta player in Japan.
This anime series transitioned from an elementary school era to a high school era. Chihaya was seen perfecting herself in the game of Karuta and was determined to be one of the best. However, her childhood friends with whom she learned to play karuta parted their ways and Chihaya was left alone. But she didn’t drop playing karuta.
In high school, she met one of her old friends, Taichi who was also a sportsperson. He helped Chihaya form a karuta club in the high school and organised the functioning of that group. He deeply cared for Chihaya but suppressed his feelings because Chihaya was in love with Arata.
Arata left his career as a karutist behind after his grandfather’s sudden demise. He was later motivated by Chihaya and Taichi to return to karuta again and he made his comeback as an A-class player.
There is no official synopsis or brief regarding the storyline of Chihayafuru Season 4. The makers will source the story from one of the novels but we don’t know which one. All we can speculate is that it will continue the story of Chihaya and Arata.
