Recently, Apple TV+ has made some winning moves. After its forthcoming third season, the lovable soccer comedy “Ted Lasso” may be coming to an end. The streaming network’s sailing appears to be currently fairly smooth, and there are more nice things on the road. CODA, the 2022 Best Picture Oscar winner, and a variety of fantastic Apple TV+ titles are at its disposal.
“Criminal Record,” a brand-new eight-part crime thriller that will soon be available on Apple TV+, is fantastic news for fans of gritty British police drama. The project is set to be a deserving addition to the streamer’s ever-expanding roster thanks to its interesting idea and ensemble of legendary British actors. Although Apple TV+ has not yet revealed when the show will launch, Jim Loach is directing it, and there is already a tone of intriguing information available. The information we currently know about “Criminal Record” is provided below.
What To Expect In Criminal Record?
The finer points of the thriller series “Criminal Record” narrative are still sensibly being kept under wraps as Apple TV+ just recently launched “Criminal Record.” But it’s evident from the press release that this won’t be the kind of program where two London detectives work cooperatively to solve cases. Instead, it seems that Jumbo’s DS Lenker and Capaldi’s DCI Hegarty will be rivals. The show addresses racial tensions, institutional failure, and the struggle to find common ground in a divided Britain.
This premise seems to suggest that a well-known murder case that the police claim to have solved may not be as simple as they once imagined. Hegarty’s façade may be in jeopardy due to Lenker’s determination to learn the truth, as he very likely may have been engaged in the first investigation in some capacity. Even while it’s still unclear whether things will be so simple, the show’s main idea surely seems intriguing. The inclusion of numerous authentic social topics and an outstanding ensemble suggests that Apple TV+ may have found yet another hit.
The Two Detectives Of The Criminal Record
The two protagonists are undoubtedly appropriate picks to play compelling characters, and the Apple TV+ press release describes the program as a “powerful, character-driven thriller.” Peter Capaldi, who has appeared in both “Doctor Who” and “The Suicide Squad,” plays Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty, an experienced officer with a solid reputation to preserve. In the role of Detective Sergeant June Lenker, a young up-and-coming actor alongside Capaldi, Cush Jumbo of “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight” fame stars. Along with Paul Rutman, who created “Criminal Record,” and Elaine Collins, who collaborated with Jumbo on the ITV crime thriller “Vera,” both of the stars are executive producers.
A really geeky bond exists between Capaldi and Jumbo. Naturally, Capaldi played the Twelfth Doctor in “Doctor Who” (as well as Lobus Caecilius in season 4 of the reimagined series) and John Frobisher in “Torchwood,” a “Doctor Who” spinoff, in 2009. Torchwood: Children of Earth featured Jumbo as Lois Habiba. The only performers that have been publicly announced thus far are these two formidable actors, and it appears that “Criminal Record” will center its story around their characters. Although it’s not yet known whether the series would pair the two detectives or set them against one another, Capaldi and Jumbo are renowned stage and screen actors who will undoubtedly complement one another.
The Devil’s Hour will be Capaldi’s upcoming film. The fencing thriller “Balestra” is currently in post-production, while Jumbo just appeared in the miniseries “Stay Close.” Manny Jacinto from “The Good Place” also appears in that movie.
The Expected Cast Of The Criminal Record
Scottish actor Peter Capaldi, who is well-known for portraying the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who from 2013 to 2017, leads the new thriller. He takes on the role of Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty in this instance, a skilled detective determined to preserve his reputation. However, Hegarty runs afoul of ambitious newcomer Detective Sergeant June Lenker, played by Cush Jumbo, when a long-forgotten murder case resurfaces.
Jumbo shared some information on the show’s anticipated cast in an Instagram post from June 20, 2022, which also stated that filming had begun. Though Capaldi and Jumbo are the only actors who have been formally announced for the project. She oddly also used a few hashtags, suggesting that she and Capaldi will be accompanied by some really top-tier British acting talent.
Jumbo’s hashtags mention Stephen Campbell Moore of “The History Boys” and “Downton Abbey” fame, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” star and four-time Tony Award contender Zoe Wanamaker, BAFTA Award-winning performer Cathy Tyson, and Stephen Campbell Moore. This strongly suggests that the three will make an appearance in the show in prominent enough positions to be mentioned.
Due to their shared acting experience, Wanamaker in particular is an intriguing name. They appeared as a pair in the critically acclaimed (according to The Guardian) West End production “Constellations” in 2021. Given this, it would seem to reason that her “Criminal Record” character may have a strong relationship to Capaldi’s DCI Hegarty.
The Release Date Of The Criminal Record
There is no set timetable for the release of Criminal Record, which is currently in production in London. Capaldi has admitted he’s not very excited about coming back to Doctor Who for a forthcoming 60th anniversary special, so perhaps it will happen sooner rather than later.
Where To Stream The Criminal Record
The Criminal Record with its eight parts will be available only on Apple Tv+. There are no updates on if AppleTv will partner with some other channels to broadcast their new series. Maybe, when the release date will be announced fans will get to know more about it.
