AMC managed to make a long-standing dream come true when Dark Winds Season 2 made it to air. the series is based on the Leaphorn and Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, Which Robert Redford optioned three full decades ago in the hopes of bringing the tales to the screen. Well, it may have taken a long time but now it’s out in the world, with the first season largely adaption listening women. However, Hillerman’s source material paves way for more.
It premiered on AMC and AMC+ on June 12, 2022, with the first season consisting of six episodes with a running time of 49 minutes. with so many psychological thrillers available to watch, it is one of the highly recommended series.
Dark Winds Season 2 Storyline
The Tony Hillerman novel series about Leaphorn and Chee served as the inspiration for Dark winds. The listening woman and people of darkness are both used .what seemed like a simple case of robbery turns out to be a very elaborate crime. It is revealed that over had been in on it from the start, and he was hunting the buffalo society not to bring them to justice, but to get his own share of the loot. He also had a different reason for sending chee to the reservation, apart from the fact that he was Navajo. To he knew he will need a fall guy.
Someone who could fill the gap in the story should anyone suspect the involvement of an inside man in the robbery. Because Chee was Navajo, it would make sense to others that he joined the buffalo society. So, the promotion and pay raise he did promise to Chee were all fake. While Chee considers shooting him into custody, With over uses bad language for anna, which is heard by her father, the guy. He shoots Whitover killing him on the spot. Bernadette arrives just in time to help Chee cover up the murder by dragging Whitover’s body and money into the cave and blowing it up.
No one would ever know that guy was there too. Leaphorn follows Tso to Hosteen’s house but is overpowered by him. They have a chat about his crimes and how there is no option for him but to surrender. James Tso is not ready for that so he lets Leaphon go and kills himself. A few months later we discover that the case has wrapped up but there are still a few kinks Leaphorn needs to figure out.
Chee returns to his home, planning to rebuild it, now that he has left the FBI. When Leaaphorn asks him what really happened in the cave, Chee does not tell him about the guy. However, it turns out that the inconsistency in the story came from the fact that only Whitover ‘s body was found in the cave. In his report, Chee also wrote about Naakai and the money but both of them were missing. This means that Nakai didn’t really die when Whitover shot him. He ran away with the money, probably from some other way out of the cave that no one else knew about.

Dark Winds Season 2 Plot
Dark Winds Navajo police officers Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee are in a tense stand-off in a cave where two robbers were hiding their money and their hostages. And after plenty of twists and turns including the revelation that Joe’s FBIally Witover was actually allied with robbers all the time..The stand-off concludes with Jim and Bernadette setting off Explosives to bury the money and the bodies in the cave.
Bernette and Jim who developed a romantic flirtation that ended bitterly when Bernadette learned Jim was secretly an FBI agent, begin to repair the rift between them by allying against the Whitover in the stand-off. Joe after the dramatic conversation with one of the robbers that end with suicide is able to begin living with the pain of the loss of his son Joe Jr, burning his varsity jacket in a Navajo ceremony. And in quite a final scene of the short episode, Joe and Jim finally come to silence and acknowledge how much their bond has come to mean to them in the short time they have known each other.
However, it turns out that the story’s discrepancy resulted from the discovery of only whatever’s body in the caveChee also mentioned Nakai and the cash in his report, but both of them were absent. This indicates that when Whitover shot Nakai he was not actually killed. Instead, he probably exited the cave via a different route that nobody else was aware of and fled with the money.
While the plot of season 2 isn’t available yet. It’s safe to say that the show will be very different from whatever book the series chooses to resemble. The first season itself had a lot of differences, even in the portrayal of characters and stories. Next season, the series will continue to build on that with its roots tied to Hillerman’s story.
