For All Mankind Season 4 Release Date, Plot, Cast, Storyline, and More

The story about Neil Armstrong’s landing on the Moon has been adopted in many movies and shows but For All Mankind talks of alternate history. It is one of a kind of sci-fi show that showcases rivalry and fierce competition between global powers regarding exploration and more knowledge.

For All Mankind, an American Sci-fi Drama is back for another Season, with an ensemble cast and a gripping space race between nations. The alternate history of the show was a brilliant take on the current history, by showing a ‘What if’ scenario regarding what we have accomplished and the inner workings of large space organizations.

Named after the Lunar Plaque left on the moon by travelers on Apollo 11 and the story of the first-ever human landing on the moon, the plaque read, “We Come In Peace For All Mankind.”

This show, which has had three seasons previously, talks of what would have happened if Neil Armstrong hadn’t been the first man to walk on the moon. What if the Soviet Union managed to be the first space agency to manage a human landing on the moon, and what would NASA do in such a situation?

Each season of the show is spaced out in subsequent decades, beginning with Season 1 in the 1970s, Season 2 in the 1970s, and the last season in the 1990s, so we can assume that Season 4 will speak of attempts made in space exploration programs across the globe and of NASA in the 2000s in an alternate reality. Each season covers a large period of time and has 10 episodes.

The series also features famous figures, including some of the Apollo 11 astronauts who were involved in the first human landing on the moon: Neil Armstrong (the first man to walk on the moon),  Buzz Aldrin (the second),  Michael Collins, Deke Slayton, Wernher von Braun, Thomas Paine, Gene Kranz, Ted Kennedy, and U.S. presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton. Some real-life footage and speeches of famous figures were also used in the show, which added to the authenticity of the alternate world by drawing parallels from historical events and incorporating many other events that never happened.

The show is created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi. All three are executive producers, as are Maril Davis, Seth Gordon, and Naren Shankar. The main cast will see major changes as the characters age and die, due to the large year span covered by the show between and in the seasons.

This Season includes an ensemble of amazing actors, who would surely be reprising their roles in Season 4.

  • Joel Kinnaman plays Edward Baldwin, one of NASA’s top astronauts, also known as “Ed.” His character is based on the famous astronaut Thomas P. Stafford, who was the commander of Apollo 10.
  • Jodi Balfour plays Ellen Wilson, aka Ellen Waverly, who becomes a US senator and president in the 1992 Presidential Election. She was formerly an astronaut and member of “Nixon’s Women,” as well as an Administrator of NASA.
  • Wrenn Schmidt plays Margo Madison, a NASA engineer who was mentored by Wernher von Braun. This character was based on Frances Northcutt, who was the first female engineer to work on Apollo 11.
  • Krys Marshall plays Danielle Poole, who’s another astronaut and also a member of “Nixon’s Women.”
  • Cynthy Wu, who plays Kelly Baldwin, is also a scientist. She was adopted by Ed and Karen.
  • Michael Dorman plays “Gordo” Stevens; his full name is Gordon, and he is Ed’s best friend. He is based on Apollo 10’s lunar module pilot Eugene Cernan, who is the 11th human being to walk on the moon.

In August 2022, it was reported that “Home Alone” fame Daniel Stern would be a regular cast member for the 4th season. A month later, in September 2022, Toby Kebbell and Tyner Rushing of “Dead Man’s Shoes” fame joined the cast as regulars as well.

In 1969, the first-ever human landing happened on the Moon, by the Soviet Space Agency in the alternate universe. That highly embarrassed NASA and they redoubled their efforts to outshine the Soviets and its space exploration programs by being faster and better than them. The fact that their Space program also had women (which didn’t happen in reality for a long time,) forced NASA to make its team diverse plus inclusive of all different genders and ethnicities as well.

The idea for the show was that if Father of Soviet Space Research Sergei Korolev hadn’t died in the 60s, the Soviets would definitely have been far ahead on their achievements in space. He died early and since he was the major motivator and brain power behind the Soviet space program, their plan fell like a stack of cards.

Had he been alive, NASA would have had a great competitor to perform better and faster, and thus the discoveries of space would have been faster owing to outshining one another, and how NASA would have fared in the face of failures.

The race between two great powers to faster colonize the Moon and make their mark in space would be seen again in Season 4. With another rival joining the gang in Season 3, the race is at an all-time high and this time all eyes are on Mars.
