From Scratch is an upcoming American drama limited series created by Attica Locke and Tembi Locke based on Tembi Locke’s memoir of the same name for Netflix. Attica Locke serves as the showrunner of the series, which stars Zoe Saldaña and consists of eight episodes. From Scratch is set to premiere in 2022.
After being presented a recipe from a chef, actor and adventurer David Moscow hunts, dives, forages, and grows each ingredient to remake the meal, revealing the overwhelming amount of work and passion that brings everyday ingredients into the kitchen. The series was announced on November 7, 2019. Zoe Saldaña was set to star and executive produce the series.
The series is created by an executive produced by Attica Locke and Tembi Locke. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Richard Abate, Jermaine Johnson, and Will Rowbotham also serve as executive producers. Nzingha Stewart, Guy Louthan, Emily Ferenbach, Cisely Saldaña, and Mariel Saldaña produce.

The plot of From Scratch
It’s a privilege to adapt From Scratch again for television. It resembles a theatrical personal letter in several respects and is also the ideal development for this plot. Attica Locke, my sister and co-creative showrunner, is the ideal candidate to accompany me on this adventure. No one is as familiar with the tale as she is. This is a confrontation between life and creativity that enables the particular to become general. It was absolutely a dream come true for From Scratch to get Zoe Saldana on board.
Since Lino, the major character, is modeled on the writer’s late spouse, they were aware that selecting some parts would indeed be difficult. Upon seeing one actor’s performance, Attica contacted the writer. As she observed, she used to have a passionate reaction and advised that they stay on the telephone simultaneously. They learned from that phone call. Here was a stranger who made everyone feel like family. Everyone in the cast feels the same way.
It is lovely and even fortunate to tell a story that appreciates the wealth of environment, cuisine, affection, and adventure after more than a year of confinement, estrangement, and lost things that have all been forbidden. We hope that the show will sate their spirits, stimulate their imaginations, and, of course, serve as a reminder of the amazing ways that cuisine can express affection. There isn’t a place that From Scratch could be more at home than on Netflix.
This series is about how compassion and common humanity can transcend national boundaries and span landmasses, numerous dialects, and numerous traditions. It’s great to know that this program, which shows the characteristics that all humans share regardless of where they live in the world, will be distributed globally. Sicilian chef Lino of Mastrandrea spent his childhood interpreting novels in the evening after spending each day with his parents harvesting onions and figs in the plains of Sicily and cooking from scratch in his family’s oven.
Lino defied a century-old custom by abandoning the Sicilian farms to pursue a career as a cook. He is capable of accomplishing all of his goals until he passes away because of his wife’s devotion. Amy’s (Saldana’s) older sister and closest mate are played by Deadwyler as Zora. She occasionally detests her younger sister for persuading their people to support her regulation, but she also really supports her. She is Amy’s strongest family supporter, and she has a dry sense of humor.
David portrays Hershel, Amy’s dad, and a prominent civil rights icon. Hershel is a straightforward father who allows his children to make their individual judgments but does not yell at them if he believes they are going to make an error. He brought up two independent young ladies. Despite being blissfully engaged, he always feels the pain of his separation from Amy’s mother.
Smith portrays Lynn, Amy’s razor-sharply humorous mother who is quick to pass judgment on practically every facet of her daughter’s life. During their separation, Lynn handed Hershel guardianship of the daughters, and she ended up spending ten years feeling bad about it.

The first season of the series was released on 16 February 2020 and the second season of the series was released on 1 January 2022. As of now, there is no announcement given by the production companies but they will soon be notified.
