Hand Shakers are lovers who can call forth “Nimrodes,” weapons borne from their innermost selves, by holding hands in Osaka in the year “AD20XX.” The Hand Shakers engage in competition with and combat with other Hand Shaker pairs in order to fulfill the pair’s dream. The winning team will next confront and test “God.”
In “AD20XX,” Hand Shakers takes place in Osaka. Tazuna Takatsuki, a high school student with a talent for mechanics, accepts a specific repair request and travels to a university research center throughout the course of the narrative. He meets Koyori Akutagawa, a lonely young woman dozing off on a bed, there. Tazuna brushes her fingertips as if being guided by someone, and a voice comes inside him from an unidentified source.
As a brand-new world, Ziggurat unfolds before him, Tazuna is left perplexed. Now, as Hand Shakers, the pair must struggle to gain God’s favor so they can ask for something in return. The numerous Hand Shakers must engage in combat to overthrow God using “Nimrods,” abilities that are born from one’s psyche after shaking hands.
The challenges and tribulations faced by those who receive the Revelation of Babel are numerous. These “Hand Shakers” may go to the world of Ziggurat, another dimension where time no longer exists, by grabbing their particular partner’s hand. For the opportunity to meet with God, who will reward them by fulfilling one of their wishes, each pair of Hand Shakers must compete.
One of these Hand Shakers is Tazuna Takatsuki, a high school girl with a passion for mending things. Tazuna discovers Koyori Akutagawa, a sick girl who reminds him of his late sister Musubu, after getting a request for repairs from Professor Makihara of a local university. Tazuna takes Koyori’s hand and awakens his power as a Hand Shaker, remembering Koyori’s dying request to never let go of her hand.
Hand Shakers Season 1 Ending Explained suggests that the fact that Koyori is a Hand Shaker, however, means that Tazuna must always hold her hand or else Koyori would perish. The two must figure out how to combine their special abilities, defeat the opposing Hand Shakers, and fulfil their wish because seeing God is their only chance to save her.
Hand Shakers Season 1 Ending Explained
The previous week lefts us with Tazuna and Koyori meeting Nagaoka, the Mysterious Stranger who had previously appeared a few times. In addition to being Makihara’s former Hand Shaker, Nagaoka now works with Koyori’s previously unmentioned twin sister Mayumi. Hand Shakers plans to spend this week with everyone simply standing about and doing nothing while Nagaoka narrates a very long story that will apparently answer all of the audience’s questions because there is a lot of information needed to explain how all of this ended up occurring.
Set pieces and plot development have already been poorly balanced in Hand Shakers, so squeezing everything into the final week feels less like intentional scheming and more like a last-minute scramble by the script to fill in the spaces.
The problem is, this episode doesn’t even attempt to do that. In addition to being a failure of plot execution, this specific Extended Flashback Episode merely serves to exacerbate the situation. This week’s screenplay does let out so much frivolous rubbish that it reads like complete gibberish, although purportedly addressing a few essential themes, such as how Makihara and Nagaoka became involved in this Hand Shakers thing.
Hand Shakers Season 1 Conclusion
Koyori and Mayumi’s parents were coworkers of Makihara and Nagaoka, but we don’t hear anything about how they got to be Hand Shakers or what their interactions were like. It is revealed that Koyori and Mayumi are Hand Shakers by birth, but how is left unclear. Due to a birth defect, Koyori and Mayumi are doomed to die if they ever let go of each other’s hands. However, Makihara is able to keep them in a coma and stop this from happening. Nagaoka even says that he keeps Mayumi alive somehow by using a combination of medications and implanted memories.
Hand Shakers Season 1 Ending Explained shows that Makihara reveals that when people love or share a common goal, a chemical reaction in their brains causes them to become Hand Shakers. They also transform into some sort of magical wonderkinds made by an enigmatic, all-knowing God. Sounds reasonable.
