1989’s Heathers is a Black Comedy and Suspense movie penned by Daniel Waters. This film was brought to life by Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk, Kim Walker, and Penelope Milford. Daniel was known in his early days for writing sketches on his real-life classmates, though Heathers is different from his previous projects.
The plot revolves around teenage jealousy and racism. Though the movie did not do well at the box office, despite this the story drew the attention of a large audience. A writer and actors should be commended for their deliciously witty dialogues, excellent performances, and incredible body language.
There is hardly anyone who has not been a victim of bullying during their school years; Veronica Sawyer, a student at Westerburg High School in Ohio, was also a victim of such a sad event. Veronica was a member of her school’s famous clique, which included three rich and spoiled girls: Heather Duke, Heather McNamara, and Heather Chandler. Despite being a member of the Clique, Veronica sees herself as distinct from the other three girls, and Clique members never miss any opportunity to harass her. As a result, Veronica began to distance herself from the Clique members, though she accidentally collided with them for various reasons.
Heathers Ending Explained
Tired of it all, Veronica asked her boyfriend Jason “J.D.” to kill them. The plot of the film revolves around revenge and ego; we all have two personalities, one calm and one angry. As long as someone speaks politely to you, your nature is also polite to them. When your nature is full of arrogance and anger, the other person too develops a hatred for you, which is common in teenagers. The film Heathers depicted a character of a similar nature.
Veronica is horrified after killing Heather Chandler, Ram, and Kurt, and she quickly realizes that whatever she did was wrong. When she learned of the JD’s intentions, the ground shifted beneath his feet. JD intended to kill all of the high school students as a form of mass suicide, and JD chose Heather Duke to carry out this task. Heather Duke is forced to get the sign of all students on a fake note. When Veronica discovers this, she shoots her ex-boyfriend, JD. Despite this, JD chased Veronica while inebriated and killed himself by blowing a bomb.
Veronica somehow survived the incident and decided to become the leader herself. The moral of this story is that sometimes a hasty decision can prove fatal in the long run; JD is the best example of this. The one who dug his own grave by taking a bad step in a hurry, on the other hand, Veronica saved not only her own life but also the lives of many others by taking the right step at the right time; however, if Veronica had taken this step earlier, the lives of three other people could have been saved.
