Is Avatar Based On A True Story?

Avatar is an epic science fiction film directed, and written by James Cameron and co-produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau. The groundwork for the movie began when James Cameron wrote an 80-page draft for the movie in 1994 but was held back from starting its filming process as the required technology was not yet developed to make the movie realistic.

The budget for the movie was around $237 million because of the new technology used in the making of the movie by Wellington’s Weta Digital (a digital visual effects company), to achieve Cameron’s vision. With $150 million for promotion, the film’s complete budget was around $387 million. The movie was released in 2009 and has the most praiseworthy and innovative visual effects and motion graphics. The film was released in a normal theatre setup, in 3D, and in some parts of South Korea, it was available in 4D viewing.

During its release in the theatre, Avatar surpassed several box office records, prompting the film to be the highest-grossing film of the time. It continued to be the world’s highest-grossing film until the release of Avenger’s Endgame movie. It is said to be the second-highest grossing movie after 1939’s Gone with the Wind film with more than $3 billion. The movie has won three Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography.

“The plot of the movie begins with humans having exhausted all of Earth’s natural resources, creating an extreme energy crisis. Due to this, they need a valuable mineral called unobtanium found on Pandora, a habitable moon having a 10-foot tall blue human resembling species identified as Na’vi. Pandora’s atmosphere is poisonous to humans due to which the scientists use ‘Avatars’, a Na’vi hybrid controlled by genetically matched humans.

Paraplegic former Marine Jake Sully decides to take his deceased twin brother’s place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora after his brother was killed in a robbery. Jake’s role in the mission was to act as a bodyguard for the scientists. While guiding the avatars of the scientists and the head of the program named Grace, Jake’s avatar is attacked by Thanatos (a dangerous creator on Pandora’s biosphere) and is rescued by a female Navi named Neytiri.

In exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs, Jake gathers knowledge, of the primitive race and their culture, while simultaneously attempting to infiltrate the Na’vi people with the use of the avatar identity. While Jake begins to bond with the native tribe and quickly falls in love with the beautiful Na’vi Neytiri, the restless Colonel moves forward with his ruthless extermination tactics, forcing the former marine soldier to take a stand and fight back in an epic battle for the fate of Pandora” as told by the IMDb review.
