Noori (Nithya Menen) has a hurt knee and her mother Mehrunissa is an unwelcome visitor (Revathi). Six years ago, the two had a spat about Noori’s choice of husband. The day before a nationwide lockdown is ordered to stop the Covid-19 outbreak, Mehrunissa breaks into Noori’s house. As they are confined together, Mehrunissa’s culinary prowess helps mother and daughter work on old wounds and mend them.

Nagesh Kukunoor directed the episode, titled My Unlikely Pandemic Dream Partner, and co-wrote the script with Bahaish Kapoor. The entire series was created by Kukunoor. He co-wrote the scripts for each of the short films and directed two additional episodes. The outstanding performances by Nithya Menen and Revathi dispel any lingering concerns about the hasty denouement. Revathi only needs to give Mehrunissa one look to make clear how much she loves Noori. As Noori, Menon exudes warmth and wisdom. One of the most heartfelt love stories in the series is created by the actors both together and separately.

The other winner of the lottery was also authored by Kukunoor and Bahaish Kapoor. Komalee Prasad plays Indu, a fresh singleton tripping through the mingledom jungle, in Finding Your Penguin. Indu has the brilliant idea to choose her future partners based on their similarities to birds. As members of her girl group, Komalee Prasad, Pavani Karanam, Bhavana Sagi, and Priyanka Kolluru give compelling performances in Venkatesh Maha’s witty investigation of the dating game. This episode is much more convincing than Devika Bahudhanam’s About That Rustle in the Bushes, which features a creepy father (Naresh) who is too protective of his daughter (Ulka Gupta) who stalks and observes her while she is out on dates.

There is a lot of controversy around a pair of stilettos that Renu (Ritu Varma) discovers in the closet of the home she shares with her boyfriend Uday in Kukunoor’s Fuzzy, Purple and Full of Thorns (Aadhi Pinisetty). Pinisetty’s lack of excitement is made up for by Varma’s enthusiasm. Every one of the short films has a silly theme song. The title track was written and sung by MM Keeravani. The determinedly lighthearted material is saved by a sharp performance here or a well-observed sequence there. The brief is to solve intractable problems faced by deracinated characters within a constrained runtime.

A six-part collection titled “Modern Love: Hyderabad” centers on new-age love tales with people from Hyderabad. The collection could be a by-product of the first Amazon Original “Modern Love,” which is ready in big apple and options New York-based new age love stories.
