McKenna (Liana Liberato), who is still in shock after the catastrophic events and terrifying finale of season 1, is shown at the beginning of season 2. Most of the time, she is shown attempting to accept the reality of the situation she finds herself in; she seeks counseling but looks dubious about it. Even in prison, she tries to contact Violet, but she withholds the truth from her regarding the curse. McKenna is immediately aware of what Violet is trying to conceal, and Violet informs her that the only way to break the curse is to play the game with a fatal ending once more. She even offers McKenna assistance if she can free Violet from the detention center.

Even though they both understand that Violet is the only person who can solve the problem, McKenna’s only best friend still alive, Alex, doesn’t agree with this. Additionally, McKenna’s relationship with Trey (Jordan Rodrigues) suffers as she tries to conceal the curse’s existence to safeguard others around her. Things change for McKenna and Alex as residents of the town start going missing, with Violet emerging as an unusual ally.

The golden trio’s mission to learn more about the game’s beginnings starts when McKenna determines for sure that the game has been played once again following a hazardous mishap. The relationship between Violet and Isaac (Brent Rivera) deepens, Peri (a new character played by Adrian Rae) grows fond of Alex, and many return to voice their misgivings about McKenna, but for the most part, season 2’s events are quite predictable. The story also gets off to a shaky start, with information being dropped on the audience here and there without any consistent continuity.

In the end, McKenna and the other players risk everything to survive the game’s horrors, but that’s also when the season’s high point occurs. As the gang lights candles to get ready for another round of the catastrophic game, we have a flashback of McKenna’s twin sister Jenny’s death. When McKenna says, “Let’s start,” the season comes to an end. Even though there are a few glaring flaws here and there, season 2 is still well worth watching if you liked season 1. It was a little underwhelming compared to the high expectations, but if nothing else, watch it for Ramm’s portrayal of Violet.
