“Pay The Piper” was the title of Murdoch Mysteries Season 15 Episode 23 which aired on April 4, 2022. Crabtree and Effie discovered the shooting of a man in broad daylight whom they mistook for Detective Murdoch in the episode. The fact that it was a different person wearing the same clothing as Murdoch and riding a bicycle along the same path as Murdoch was noteworthy. Violet later revealed to Detectives Murdoch and Thomas that the deceased had purchased his tailor-made clothing from the same store as Detective Murdoch.

On the other side, when Crabtree and Effie visited Effie’s parents in Wexford, Crabtree told Effie’s father that he had been interested to learn about the Wexford wonder—possible alien sightings—and that he had been there to meet Effie. This got Effie’s father very enthusiastic, and he then showed them a device he had constructed to analyze electromagnetic pulses and detect a spike in them that would indicate the presence of a gateway leading to the aliens’ home planet. This also became a big concern when Effie’s best friend vanished and some unusual, by no means human or animal, footprints were discovered close to her home.

Murdoch was growing increasingly wary of many of the people that were around his family while he was still in Toronto. He initially began to have doubts about the young priest from out of town who was going to baptize their daughter. Later, Murdoch went to an older criminal he had imprisoned and asked him if he was behind everything, seeking retribution. He refuted it though. The nanny was discussing Murdoch’s family with someone the following day, but she didn’t like it and left. The following day, Murdoch even began to doubt her. Julia eventually had to calm him down by telling him that he was exaggerating everything.

On the other hand, Violet’s father Maurice returned and steadily began to irritate her, but she was unable to stop it. He even threatened to divulge her secret—that she had already been married—if she didn’t give him her partnership in the pub. In the two-part Season 15 finale of the historical thriller, Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) goes to tremendous lengths to protect Ogden (Helene Joy) and the infant Susannah after a Murdoch doppelganger is slain and a bomb is found in their home.
