Nightflyers Season 1 Story
It was a real mystery how Nightflyers ended. Syfy’s horror series, which was based on the George RR Martin novella of the same name, followed a group of brave scientists as they traveled through space on a spaceship that was actually haunted by the evil digital presence of the captain’s mother as they attempted to contact a mysterious alien race known as the Volcryn and possibly save Earth in the process.
Nightflyers Season 1 Ending Explained tells that after nasty flesh-covered probes and telepathic communications, the Volcryn were finally introduced to us in the Season One finale. However, although their presence provided some much-needed closure to some of the series’ most pressing mysteries, it also led to a host of brand-new ones.
The Nightflyer is in complete disarray when the climax begins. Before they reach the Volcryn, the evil Cynthia has taken over Lommie’s body and enlisted the help of her devoted right-hand man Auggie to damage the ship. The L1 Thale, the ship’s resident telepath, is overpowered by power surges and unrelenting feedback as the ship approaches the alien life form and the telepathic energy it emits.
Now that those puzzles have been solved, time is running out. With Cynthia-Lommie locked up and D’Branin flying out to meet the Volcryn, the Nightflyer is rapidly approaching them and is on the verge of overheating. Mel, Thale, Rowan, and a recently bereaved Auggie come up with a plan to essentially reboot the Nightflyer by shutting off the engines in a last-ditch effort to save the ship.
They gather the entire crew in a cluster in an effort to generate a heat sink because it means it will become sub-zero space cold in there for a moment. As the lights wink out and the spacecraft floats through space, getting closer and closer to the Volcryn, they are last seen huddling together and wrapped in thermal blankets.
