Peaky Blinders Season 7 Plot
Shelby and his family run the local gang, the most feared and powerful one in Small Heath, Birmingham 1919. The name of the gang, Peaky Blinders, comes from their tradition and practice of sewing razor blades into their cap peaks. The local gang has several illegal operations rampant in Birmingham, and they make money from illegal betting, the black market, and protection.
The show centers around this crime family and the crime lord Shelby, who has cunning ambitions to move up in the world and the materialistic ladder as he is not satisfied from merely the local crime. The aftermath of the WW1 leaves the family to carve out an empire and the ambition-driven Tommy wants to stretch their crime organization beyond Birmingham even though the usual head of the crime family is the oldest Arthur, as Tommy Shelby is the real brains behind their crime network.
When opportunity comes knocking at the door for Tommy when a crate of guns goes missing from an arms factory, he seizes it in the order to fuel and fulfill his powerful ambitions. Winston Churchill sends Major Chester Campbell to Birmingham to clean up the lawless city and recover the missing guns and it is then that this crime family comes to the attention of Chester; with rival gangs and IRA Fenians and Communist revolutionaries in the pursuit of the missing weapons as well.
The BBC series thus spans several seasons and shows how the Peaky Blinders expand their criminal network and organization through the years, with rival gangs, a whole lot of gritty drama, and the dangerous world of crime syndicates and gangsters. At the end of season 6, the finale wraps up the storyline with Tommy handing over his role in the family crime business after tying up loose ends to Ada (played by Sophie Rundle) and leaving for the wilderness. The fans were sad to see the iconic and dramatic end to an equally iconic and dramatic series. What did drive the nail to the coffin to mark an end for the series was the confirmation from Steven Knight that it won’t be followed by a seventh season, much to the widespread disappointment for the fans.
The main reason for this decision was quoted as, “The original intention was to do seven series, but COVID has stolen a year from us, and we felt what would be a great idea is to, almost in place of that seventh series, is to go onto the big screen.” This, coupled with the tragic death of the iconic actress Helen McCrory who plays Aunt Polly, one of the main characters in the series has resulted in the decision of the end of Peaky Blinders with season six and not seven.
