Schmigadoon! is an American musical comedy television series produced by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. The duo is also known for working on projects like The Lorax, Despicable 2 and 3, and The Secret Life of Pets.
Schmigadoon!’s first season was a parody and tribute to Golden Age musicals from the 1940s and 1950s. The ensemble cast is headed by Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key. Barry Sonnenfeld directed it, while Christopher Gattelli choreographed it.
Cinco Paul conceived the concept for the performance over 20 years ago, when he thought it would be amusing if two men, like the travelers in An American Werewolf in London, stumbled across a musical rather than a horror story. According to Paul, the notion finally became clear when it was modified to “a couple locked there till they can find genuine love.” Although Schmigadoon’s musical style, characters, and humor are mostly based on the 1940s and 1950s musicals, Paul claims that the settings and costumes depict 1910s America, similar to the setting in The Music Man.
Schmigadoon! Season 2 Cast
While the primary plot appears to be transporting the characters to a separate realm known as Schmicago, it has been revealed that everyone will return for another round of exciting musical numbers and wacky attire in Schmigadoon! Season 2, according to Variety.

The only two original cast members who have not been confirmed to return are Fred Armisen (who portrayed Reverend Howard Layton) and Liam Quiring-Nkini (who played Emma’s son, Carson).
While we already have a stellar cast on this list, two more fantastic additions have been revealed for Schmigadoon! Season 2 Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page will join the ensemble, according to a Variety statement. Their characters’ identities have yet to be disclosed.
Schmigadoon! Season 2 Plot
Since the majority of the original cast is returning, perhaps Schmigadoon will be transformed into Schmicago, with the residents taking on new identities as distinct characters whose job is to teach tourists valuable lessons about life and love.
Season 2 of “Schmigadoon!” will see Josh and Melissa explore another beautiful musical town, this time in the guise of “Schmicago, the land of [the 1960s and 1970s] musicals.” Aside from “Chicago,” of course, this implies that well-known musicals such as “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Grease,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” (among others) are all fair game for some friendly teasing in season 2.
The official plot of season 1 focused on Melissa and Josh, two New York physicians, embarking on a backpacking vacation to try to mend their broken relationship, only to find themselves continually squabbling. They become disoriented and soon discover a mythical town called Schmigadoon, which is permanently imprisoned in a Golden Age-style musical, and quickly realize that they cannot leave the town unless they find true love. Both the title and the premise are a spoof of the 1947 musical Brigadoon.
Schmigadoon! Season 2 Storyline
According to Variety, the second season of the popular Apple TV+ original will mimic the world of 1960s and 1970s musicals in the universe of “Schmicago.” The options are limitless. From Mary Poppins through, of course, Chicago, there are so many classic musicals from those two decades that might be imitated in this show now.
In an interview with Variety, Strong and Lorne Michaels, one of the show’s creators, revealed the period of the forthcoming season and that she is liking her costume. “Yes, we’re getting into musicals from the 1960s and 1970s. I can’t say much, but I will say that I am in love with my clothing this season. Oh, yes. If it tells you anything, I’ve already worn feathers twice. “
Melissa and Josh did not run across the bridge in season one. Despite having found true love, their quest is still incomplete. We didn’t see them ultimately depart Schmigadoon and return to their medical lives in New York City. Season 2 will go into this topic, but from the perspective of Chicago in the 1960s and 1970s.
Season 2 may see Josh’s newfound embrace of expression and communication through bursts of music take center stage.
