Shining Girls is an upcoming American thriller web series perfect for a binge-watch session. The series is based upon a novel of 2013 written by Lauren Beukes titled “Shining Girls”. Lauren is a South African novelist and writer, she has written more than 20 books as of now and The Shining Girls is a best seller. The novel was picked by Appian Way Productions even before the novel was published and now it is finally being released as a web series through Apple Studios. The Shining Girls is based on women victims of assault and the mystery is built on who is the person behind these hideous crimes.
By July 2020 there was an announcement that shining girls will proceed to start its shooting and film and by may 2021 the cast of the series was slightly disclosed by the agencies, after almost 2 years after the announcement the series is going to be released. Typically, Kirby is a journalist or reporter in Chicago, she is going through a trauma related to her assault, there are people being assaulted and injured in the same pattern. Kirby along with journalist Dan begins to investigate the case as a story to publish in the company.

Shining Girls has been announced to release on 29 of April 2022. The series has a total of 8 episodes, on 29 April 3 episodes are going to be released together, and later each episode each week on every Friday.

The cast of Shining Girls
The main casts of the show include Elisabeth Singleton Moss, an American actress and director, she is widely popular for her role in Peggy Olson and Mad Men of the AMC series. She has been awarded the Primetime Emmy Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards twice so far and also three Critics Choice Awards, she plays the role of Kirby Mizrachi in Shining Girls.
Wagner Moura, a Brazilian actor, musician, journalist, and director gained fame internationally after starring in the series Elite Squad: The Enemy Within and Elysium as Spider also starred in the Netflix series Narcos, he previously won the Grande Prêmio do Cinema Brasileiro for Best Supporting Actor, he plays the role of Dan Velazquez in Shining Girls.
Jamie Bell, an English actor, and dancer, first made his debut through the show Billy Elliot and previously won the BAFTA award for Best Actor becoming the youngest to receive it, he plays the role of Harper Curtis in Shining Girls.
Phillipa Soo, an American actress, popularly known as Eliza Hamilton in the show Broadway Musical Hamilton, was previously nominated for the Grammys Award for Best Musical Theater Album in the year 2016. Her songs are also featured in Over the Moon and Moana, she plays the role of Jin Sook in Shining Girls.
What are Shining Girls all about?
Shining Girls is based on a book written by Lauren Beukes, in the show, the main lead Kirby Mizrachi was a surviving victim of an assault, she aspires to be a journalist but after the incident, she suffers from extreme trauma and mental illness. Kirby writes her diary every day to keep up with the basic moments of her life, after 6 years after the incident a similar victim appears with the same pattern of killing. Kirby observes this pattern and tries to notify Dan Velazquez, a journalist himself but he does not show great interest in her words until he sees it himself.
He offers her to cover this story as a journalist and find the killer as she desires. Kirby is determined to find his next target and protect them at all costs but he is always a step ahead. The killer mainly targets young ambitious women with bright futures, hence the name suggests shining girls. Kirby observes the killer is everywhere all at once and the mystery killer is always successful in getting his targets and killing them in the same pattern.
The trailer reveals the killer is Harper Curtis and shows scenes of him going behind women in different forms. Kirby and Dan work together to solve this case to save more victims from getting hurt. In the process they encounter Jin Sook who claims to have suspicious things happening to her, she as well helps in the case, Kirby and Dan assume Jin Sook may be his next target. The trailer in the end is left as a mystery.
The creators of Shining Girls
The Shining Girls is created by Silka Luisa, best known for Blader Runner 2099 Producer, she is the executive producer and the screenwriter of the show. She has previously worked on The Wilding and To the Bone. Michelle MacLaren, a Canadian director, and producer, is best known for her works in Breaking Bad and Pilot, she previously won the Primetime Emmy Award back in 2013 and 2014, along with Elisabeth Moss in the set directed two episodes of Shining Girls.
Daina Raid, an Australian director and actress, popularly known for Full Frontal during 1995 and 1997 and I Love You Too in 2010, she was previously nominated for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing, she directed four episodes of Shining Girls. DiCaprio is also one of the executive producers under the Appian Way Production along with Rebecca Hobbs. The production agencies involved are Love and Squalor Pictures, MRC, Appian Way Production, and MRC Television.
