Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 was a huge risk for Paramount+ to take. Not only is adding a new series to the iconic franchise a tough decision, but Paramount+ doesn’t seem to think there are currently five Star Trek shows in the works, as Strange New World is emulating the original.
BUT! Star Trek: Strange Worlds came through and exceeded everyone’s expectation and ranking itself as one the best series in this iconic franchise.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Cast
The main cast will return for the second installment of the show, which includes:
- Anson Mount as Captain Pike
- Rebecca Romijn acted as the Commander Chin-Riley / Number One
- Ethan Peck as Spock
- Christina Chong as La’an Noonien-Singh
- Ceila Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura
- Melissa Navia as Erica Ortegas
- Jess Bush as Christine Chapel
Paul Wesley will return in season 2 as Captain James Kirk, his appearance in the first season was just a surprise. As for the new cast, Carol Kane has been casted for the recurring role of Pelia, an engineer who “suffers no fools”.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Plot
The finale’s biggest cliffhanger for Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 1 was “What will happen to Commander Chin Riley?”. It was revealed early in the series that the character was not human, but actually an Illyrian, a race forbidden from joining Starfleet.
Arrested for hiding and escorted to Enterprise. How Captain Pike deals with this, and whether this opens up Spock’s position as the new First Mate, could be a major plot point in Strange New World season 2. Also he must also continue to deal with the foreshadowing of the impending disaster that awaits him.
We also know that a younger version of Paul Wesley, Captain James T. Kirk, will play a bigger role in Season 2 of Strange New World. It could mean that viewers get a proper first look at how it develops first before it grows into what we see in .
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Release Date
Although Paramount+ hasn’t really announced when the show will premiere, we know that it will be sooner than everyone is anticipating. The show was ordered for a second season in January of 2022 which was months before the first season dropped.
However, the chances of getting season 2 sooner or later depends on several factors. A show with a lot of special effects takes a long time to produce, and Paramount+ has struggled with quite a few of its Star Trek shows. Since Strange New Worlds is technically a spin-off of Discovery, do you think P+ will share much of their history beyond the on-and-off cycle between Strange New Worlds and Discovery? Probably not. We’re expecting Discovery to return in early 2023, and Strange New Worlds will follow soon after, possibly in late spring or early summer.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 Trailer
As of now there is no trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds but, we do have a first official clip from Strange New Worlds season 2.
A clip focusing on Lieutenant Ortigas shows the pilot preparing for a rare expedition mission—not much, but showing the sci-fi series picking up where it left off. Season 2 of Strange New Worlds doesn’t plan to make too many changes to Season 1’s proven low-risk episodic format, and fans will be delighted.
