Everyone is eager to see Briana on the new season of Sweet Life: Los Angeles. Her organic skincare line, Buttrd by Bri, which she began as a side business, has gained popularity and has taken centre stage. A re-launch party has been planned with the help of Tylnn’s event company, House Party Creative. The drama involving boys surfaces before that, though. Even though P’Jae Compton’s job in talent management has taken off, the girls in the group are perplexed when he brings them along during an appearance on Power 106. Consequently, Amanda is under strain because her boyfriend Rob has grown closer to P’Jae as he supports Rob’s budding comedic career.

In a confessional moment, Amanda doesn’t hold back. Talk of the simmering beef between Jerrold and Keilan comes up at a barbecue hosted by Tylynn and her boyfriend Jaylen. “How close Rob and P’Jae have gotten is lame as fuck.” Jerrold hosted a party at a club, and after some ruckus on stage, security kicked him out. To his lover Cheryl, Jerrold makes the rather implausible promise that he wasn’t responsible and that the incident is now behind him. The fact that Keitan and Amanda have a history that dates back to formal high school events doesn’t matter at all.

Speaking of high school, Jaylenn’s old friend Marcus shows up at the BBQ, and he already has a solid reputation as a ladies’ man. The group can at least get together to eat Uncle Chunky’s food and dance to “We Can Freak It” by Kurupt before Marcus goes on to hit on someone’s mother. Everyone is arriving in boudoir attire on the night of Bri’s big launch party. Hugs, kisses, pictures, and copious amounts of alcohol are all evidence. Nobody wants to sabotage Bri’s big night, either. However, there are dramas to deal with, and there is chitchat everywhere. The other women view Cheryl’s friend Miami as a troublemaker, yet she has invited her.

Marcus drags Briana away from her companions so he can ask her out on a date after taking one glance at her attire, which resembles a lattice of skillfully placed threads. Jai is also called out for his remarks made on the radio, in which he stated that “the girls’ reactions, they were a touch extra,” having just arrived in his purple silk, er, PJs. Naturally, no one appreciates that, which causes shoving and a rising crescendo of shouting.

Everyone always wears Sweet Life: Los Angeles clothing. Even if it’s only informal at a BBQ, it’s still thought of as casual. Whether it’s a rooftop in Venice Beach or the posh Inglewood bar Nile, that kind of acute visual sense works nicely with the LA venues. We can’t all live in California, after all. But drama, drama, drama is what drives SL:LA — and this is true of so many series in its vein.

Everyone in Sweet Life: Los Angeles claims to be cautious. Since this is the first episode, it is spoken at least twice. But it appears that breaking some mother-F-in-law eggs is what they are most looking forward to. Lingerie and loungewear will be the theme of Buttrd by Bri’s re-launch party, thanks to Tylynn and House Party Creative. Everyone is out and about at Members in West Hollywood, where many of the guys arrive in shimmering silk robes, some of them shirtless. Sweet Life: Los Angeles Season 2 is available on HBO.
