The Spy is a French thriller drama television series created and directed by Gideon Raff. The story of this show is inspired by Israel’s spy, Eli Cohen. Légende Enterprises produce The Spy for French and English versions. It was initially aired on OCS and was later premiered on Netflix. This mini-series was released in September 2019. Till then, there has been no further season for this thriller drama. Fans are impatiently anticipating the release of The Spy Season 2.
The story of The Spy is based on a real-life event. The show is set in 1967 during the events of the Six-Day War between Israel and Syria. It showed us the life of Eli Cohen and his infiltration into the Syrian Government. The makers tried to keep it as real as possible and depicted every aspect of the life of a spy.
The first season of The Spy had only six episodes and that’s why it comes under the category of a mini-series. The episodes had an average runtime of 50 to 60 minutes. The first season of The Spy was critically acclaimed worldwide and the fans desired The Spy Season 2 after the release of the first season. This article will cover every detail and information you might need regarding the release of The Spy Season 2.
The Spy Season 2 Plot Speculation
The miniseries is inspired by the life of an Israel Mossad, Eli Cohen. Mossad is the national intelligence agency of Israel and is responsible for the management of the Israeli Intelligence Community.
The show is set in the year, 1967 during the war between Israel and Syria. The purpose of The Spy was to portray the risks and dangers in the life of a spy. Most of the series and shows based on real-life events usually modify the storyline according to their needs. However, The Spy is a pure story and no alteration has been made to the reality.
It navigated us to the past of Eli Cohen in Egypt. He was rejected by the army and it also depicted the determination of Cohen to prove himself worthy. He then worked as an Israel top Mossad spy.
He infiltrated the Syrian Ministry of Defense during the Six-Day War Between Israel and Syria. He took the identity of Kamel Amin Thaabet and assumed himself as a local of Syria. Eli Cohen befriended many people who had relations with the Syrian Government.
Cohen was later appointed as the Deputy Defense Minister of Syria and was very close to Syria’s future president, Amin-al-Hafiz. He sent messages to the Isreal government about Syria’s plans. It was because of him that the war was shortened to just six days in 1967.
Eli Cohen was found as a mole by the Syrian Government. He was imprisoned in the act of sending messages to Israel. He was publicly executed in the busiest street of Syria, Marjeh Square.
The story of Eli Cohen ended with the first season. There is nothing that could be portrayed in The Spy Season 2 as Cohen’s future. What we expect is that it could possibly focus on the past life of Eli Cohen because there won’t be a future for him as he is dead.
There might also be chances that the makers return with The Spy Season 2 but with a new story. Like Eli Cohen, they could also illustrate the story inspired by a different real-life spy.
There are a lot of speculations that could be made regarding the plot of The Spy Season 2. We can’t predict a correct storyline until there is any kind of official synopsis or brief which could give us a sneak peek into the plot of The Spy Season 2.
The Spy Season 2 Cast
We don’t know whether the Spy Season 2 might return its mark with the story of Eli Cohen or any other real-life spy. But if it returns with Cohen’s life then we can assume that most of the characters and cast of the new season would be retained from the first season. The members of The Spy Season 1 cast and characters are –
- Sacha Baron Cohen as Eli Cohen / Kamel Amin Thaabet
- Hadar Ratzon-Rotem as Nadia Cohen. Nadia was the wife of Eli Cohen.
- Yael Eitan as Maya
- Noah Emmerich as Dan Peleg
- Moni Moshonov as Jacob Shimoni
