In 2006, a sequel, Split, was released. In 2011, Shyamalan revealed that he had originally planned to make a trilogy of films with Unbreakable and Split being the first two installments. David Dunn (Bruce Willis) is a security guard who works at a stadium in Philadelphia. After saving a young boy from a car accident, he discovers that he has superhuman abilities. One such ability is the power to see the crimes that people have committed, even if they have not been convicted. Dunn tests his abilities by trying to find the man who killed his wife.

Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) is a comic book art dealer who has a brittle bone disease that makes his bones very fragile. He believes that comic books are a metaphor for real life and that the heroes and villains in them represent different aspects of the human psyche. He approaches Dunn and tells him about his theory, hoping to convince him that he too is a superhero.

Price’s theory turns out to be true, and Dunn begins to investigate the crimes that he sees. He eventually comes to realize that he is not the only one with superhuman abilities; the person who killed his wife is also a vigilante.
