The Wheel of Time Season 2, a cherished high fantasy series by Robert Jordan, is getting a movie adaptation. Finally. The Eye of the World, the first book, hit the shelves in 1990. And now, decades later, the worlds of Rand author, Matrim Cauthon, Perrin Aybara, and so many others are coming to life on Prime Video. It’s a deep tale filled with lore, magic, and a million characters or more. The 14-book Wheel of Time trilogy (plus a prequel) was finished by Brandon Sanderson after Robert Jordan passed away. It’s difficult to adapt that much material, thus a TV series seems like the best option.
Read this article to learn more about The Wheel of Time if you’re unfamiliar. In essence, it’s a vast retelling of the narrative of the Chosen One filled with action, romance, and badass women (Aes Sedai) who can use magic. Keep reading to find out what we currently know about The Wheel of Time TV series.
Eight episodes made up the first season, which debuted on Prime Video on November 19, 2021. The first three episodes were made available right away, and the remaining five episodes were released weekly after that. The season finale aired on December 24, 2021. Before the first episode, in May 2021, the show was given a second season order.
Wheel of Time Season 2 Plot
The Wheel of Time is a convoluted, intricate story. The book series, which was completed by fellow fantasy author and Wheel of Time fan Brandon Sanderson after Jordan’s death in 2007, comprises 14 mainline novels. Much like Game of Thrones, it also has a stacked list of characters (almost 3,000 named individuals) and locations, as well as multiple plot threads to follow, across its 11,308 pages.
The Wheel of Time follows Rand author, a kind child who lives in a sleepy town called the Two Rivers, in an unidentified world (fans refer to it as The Redlands or The World of the Wheel).
Rand is saved by Moiraine, a strong sorceress, and member of a clandestine all-female society known as the Aes Sedai, and her Warder protector Lan Mandragoran when the Dark One’s armies attack Rand’s home and attempt to destroy the world. Moiraine sends Rand on a perilous, continent-spanning trip that will determine the fate of the world because she believes that the Dark One is looking for the Dragon Reborn, a legendary hero who can vanquish the ruler of evil.
But Rand isn’t the only person who might be the ‘Dragon Reborn,’ as the saying goes. Matrim “Mat” Cauthon, Perrin Aybara, Nynaeve al’Meara, and Egwene al’Vere, his male and female friends, might also be the reborn hero Moiraine is looking for. The group’s path to finally vanquish the Dark One will not be easy, but they are united in their optimism. The destiny of the planet depends on them because The Dragon Reborn also possesses the power to annihilate humanity rather than free it. So, no pressure.
Apart from that summary, most viewers won’t be familiar with The Wheel of Time’s story. Dedicated readers of the novels will, although there are some times where the program deviates from the original. So, when Amazon releases its adaptation, fans of Jordan’s writing will have some new things to watch out for.
