According to a BBC press release
“October 1940. As the Northern Blitz begins, lone pilots are dispatched to combat German aircraft patrolling the skies over Manchester. The harsh truth of war has come to Britain.
“World On Fire season two will transport viewers from the streets of Britain to occupied France, Nazi Germany, and the dunes of the North African desert, where British forces battle alongside Indian Sappers and Australian Diggers to adapt to a radically new type of combat.”
World On Fire Season 2 Storyline
The first season ended on a cliffhanger, with Harry and Kasia narrowly surviving a Nazi ambush in Poland and being pursued by Nazi forces, so fans will be eager to learn what happened to the duo. Meanwhile, Lois had Harry’s kid and the proposal.
Writer and creator Peter Bowker provided some hints for the second season.
Kasia and Lois will meet, and the consequences will be exciting and entertaining for everyone. Season 2 will traditionally begin with a blitz in the Northwest of England. And North Africa will be a major battleground. We’ll learn more about Webster’s ancestors. Nancy will ultimately be forced to leave Berlin near the beginning of the series for crossing a line, and we will learn more about her. And she will continue. She’ll undoubtedly be in the Soviet Union for some of it. And, of course, Lois is imprisoned in a Bront-Esque, loveless marriage with Vernon.
Fans will be eager to see what happened to Harry and Kasia after they narrowly escaped a Nazi ambush in Poland and were pursued by Nazi forces in the first season. Meanwhile, Lois was pregnant with Harry’s child and was engaged to RAF fighter pilot Vernon Hunter.
World On Fire Season 2 Release Date
“World on Fire,” like many other shows and films, had its production timeline changed owing to the epidemic. As of yet, no official launch date for Season 2 has been revealed, however, it was verified in the comments section of an October 2020 Instagram post on the show’s official account that production will begin in the summer of 2021. The PBS Masterpiece Theater website has also confirmed that “World on Fire” will return to the network for a second season, but has also stated that it is “too early” to announce how many episodes there will be or who will be in the cast.
In a 2019 interview with Town & Country, PBS Masterpiece executive producer Susanne Simpson said that Season 2 will focus on the year 1940 and how World War II affected people throughout the United Kingdom and Europe at the time. Bowker has also hinted at the big stories for the upcoming season. “In Season 2, Kasia [Zofia Wichlacz] and Lois [Julia Brown] will meet, and the ramifications from that will be intriguing and fascinating for everyone,” he stated.
“Historically, Season 2 will begin with the blitz in the Northwest of England,” Bowker stated. “And North Africa will be a major battleground. We’ll learn more about Webster’s [Brian J. Smith] ancestors. Nancy [Helen Hunt] will be forced to leave Berlin towards the beginning of the series for crossing a line, and we will also learn more about Nancy… She will undoubtedly spend some time in the Soviet Union.”
The BBC has stated that “additional new and returning actors will be announced in due course,” suggesting that Douglas may return at some point or in future seasons.
Season 2 of World on Fire is anticipated to include seven episodes, as was Season 1. The show might release in 2023.
